Mentor Text Analysis #4
Updated: Mar 12, 2022
How do you start talking about "not talked about" topics? Jazmine Hughes, writer of "Elaine Welteroth, Teen Vogue's Refashionista," is passionate about incorporating these "not talked about" topics into her writing. Welteroth, editor in chief of Teen Vogue, is just as passionate (if not more) about catering to a generation that demands inclusivity, diversity, and representation. Hughes conveys Welteroth's ambitious voice throughout her article by including interview excerpts between the two. Readers, specifically teens and young adults, are able to hear the importance behind Welteroth's message of progressivism while still feeling a relaxed vibe from Hughes' voice in her text. That's what makes Hughe's article effective. She relays important issues to teens while still keeping them interested in the article. My dad would probably not be entertained by this article or a "Teen Vogue" magazine, but if there's going to be social change, you may as well teach activism young because they have the potential to transform communities.
